WHY NEW TRUCKERS LEAVE IN FIRST 90 DAYS

MISMATCHED JOB EXPECTATIONS AT TOP OF LIST OF WHY NEW DRIVERS LEAVE IN FIRST 90 DAYS

Inexperience, worse-than-expected work-life balance, and dissatisfaction with recruiters and dispatchers are key reasons why 33% of drivers leave their carriers within the first 90 days of starting a job, according to Stay Metrics research.

An additional 22% of drivers leave their carriers within 180 days.

Stay Metrics’ analysis of more than 24,000 active drivers and 80 motor carrier clients that contribute data to its driver engagement and analytics platform, points out traits among drivers who quit within given timeframes.

Among those who quit within 90 days, Stay Metrics identified inexperience in 77.3%, low recruiter satisfaction in 56.4%, high degree of work-family conflict in 60.2%, home less than expected in 93.4%, and low dispatcher satisfaction in 72.3%.

Stay Metrics recommends carriers have a single, consistent recruiting message that lays out what drivers can expect as far as earnings and time at home.

The message should be repeated during the orientation and on-boarding period.
