INDUSTRY LEADERS ANNOUNCE TRUCK PARKING LEADERSHIP INITIATIVE
Several trucking associations have announced their joint effort to develop a new parking and safety initiative focused on sharing information about the availability of parking spaces for professional truck drivers.
The National Association of Truck Stop Operators (NATSO), the American Trucking Associations (ATA), and the American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI), are the leaders in developing the Truck Parking Leadership Initiative.
Toward the end of this summer, the Leadership Initiative will complete development of a free mobile app called Park My Truck, which will give truck drivers who need to stop and rest the ability to locate available parking space in their travel area. The app will allow any public or private parking provider to report their parking availability without requiring any special technology except internet access.
Park My Truck will be accessible by internet or through smart-phone apps by all professional drivers, trucking fleets or other industry participants.
“Lack of information about available truck parking across the nation is a serious problem, both for drivers and the inspectors who interact with them,” said Collin B. Mooney, Executive Director of the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA). “We owe it to the hardworking drivers who spend countless hours on the road to do everything we can to help them find safe, convenient and accessible places to park and get the rest they need.”
