FMCSA SEEKS COMMENTS ON MEDICAL REVIEW BOARD RECOMMENDATIONS

Update for Truckers with Diabetes

A notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) to allow drivers with stable, well-controlled insulin-treated diabetes mellitus (ITDM) to be qualified to operate commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) in interstate commerce, was published in the Federal Register in May, 2015.

More than 1,250 comments were received and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) requested that the Medical Review Board (MRB) analyze the proposal and provide the Agency with recommendations for publication.

The MRB Report has been published in the Federal Register and FMCSA is now seeking comments on any or all of the many detailed recommendations made by the MRB.

To the extent possible, comments should include supporting materials such as data analyses, studies, reports or journal articles. Comments can be submitted at the Regulations.gov website by following the online instructions and using Docket ID# FMCSA-2005-23151.

All comments must be received on or before November 8, 2016.
