FMCSA Reviewing Sleep Apnea Rule
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) will hold meetings of its Medical Review Board (MRB) to review comments received on the FMCSA’s potential sleep apnea rule.
In March, the FMCSA and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) issued an Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (ANPRM) seeking information on moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea safety implications, as well as the potential costs and benefits of regulatory actions to address the risk.
The agencies listed 20 questions for interested parties to answer in public comments. The agencies also held three public listening sessions.
The FMCSA received nearly 600 comments on its ANPRM. Now, the MRB will meet on Aug. 22-23 to make its recommendations.
The meetings are open to the public for their entirety, and the public will be allowed to comment during the proceedings.
