‘INTERIM’ NO MORE: SENATE CONFIRMS DARLING AS FMCSA ADMINISTRATOR

T.F. Scott Darling III has run the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) since August 2014 when the previous administrator, Anne Ferro, left.

In August 2015, President Barack Obama nominated him as the official administrator. On July 14, Darling was at last confirmed by the U.S. Senate.

In a statement, Department of Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx says, “As the acting Administrator over the last 11 months, Scott has been laser-focused on the agency’s mission of reducing large bus and truck crashes and fatalities. He goes the extra mile to engage actively and personally with the agency’s stakeholders. His collaborative approach has moved the ball forward on commercial motor vehicle safety. I look forward to our continued work together and congratulate him on his confirmation.”

Before joining the FMCSA, Darling was deputy chief of staff and assistant general counsel of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA), which serves the greater Boston area.

He was also the MBTA's environmental and land use counsel as well as its privacy administrator.
